The drive to LA (March 13, 1999) for Spring Internet World
The drive down: I discovered that the passage through the mountains that one drives through to get to Los Angeles is called the "grapevine", probably because the road winds through the hills like a grapevine. Even though it was mid April, a snowstorm had hit just a few days ago and there was snow covering the nearby mountains. When I drove back a week later, all the snow was gone. Still, the view through the mountains was breathtakingly beautiful.

Shortly after leaving the bay area, near a city called Stockton, you will see one of the largest American Wind-generated electrical plants. It is quite spectacular!
